Name: Hibiki Ganaha

Gender: Female
Canon: THE iDOLM@STER
Canon Point: Episode 15, "Everyone Together, It's a Live Broadcast! A Live Broadcast!"
History: here, here, here
Personality:
Hibiki is an energetic, charismatic idol that hails from the wonderful land of Okinawa, Japan. She has near limitless amounts of energy, she has a true competitor’s spirt, and she can brighten the mood anywhere she goes with just a smile and a song. She’s the kind of person who throws herself into everything she does; ready, shoot, and aim. A lot of these traits are similar to the other 765 Pro idols, though; there’s a lot that makes Hibiki unique.
First off, Hibiki loves animals. She has eleven, and every single one of them is worth listing. There’s Hamuzou the Hamster, her companion that she talks to, and Inumi-chan, her dog, who she sometimes fights with. She also has, however, a cat, alligator, flying squirrel, chipmunk, pig, snake, parrot, and a rabbit. She also keeps a chicken back home in Okinawa. To her, since she lives alone in Tokyo, they’re her family. She’s extremely close to them, and to an extent, she can understand them. She gets up every morning, much earlier than most do, just to make she has time to make them all their favorite meals. As she says herself, she makes sure to include lots of their favorites, but to grind up the food they really need so they’ll eat it, too!
Despite this love, though, Hibiki argues with her pets like one would argue with their siblings. Occasionally, she’ll sneak a piece of Hamuzou’s fruit and he’ll get angry at her, prompting him to run away until apologize. In Episode 16, Inumi is so upset with Hibiki’s success (she’s been feeding them pet food and not being around as much) that he refuses to participate in her television show. Sometimes, they run away from her, or they just sneak out while she’s not looking. Hibiki always goes after them, though, and they aren’t afraid to tell her what’s up, either. It’s not uncommon for Hibiki to get into small arguments with them in the office, or for them to tell her what’s up and what’s missing (Hamuzou even slaps her in one episode).
In all, she and her pets share a powerful bond, one like a bunch of siblings. Hibiki takes care of them with love and hard work, and they sometimes just end up at odds because of all of their loud personalities. While it’s easy for someone to look in and notice that Hibiki lost Hamuzou again today, people who truly know her will know that they have a bond closer than any normal pet and owner. After all, what kind of Okinawan idol can fall down a cliffside and have her dog, hamster, alligator, rabbit, parrot, chipmunk, cat, flying squirrel, and pig come to her rescue?
She’s not just a one-fanged girl who loves animals, though. As mentioned before, Hibiki has a loud and colorful personality. She’s endlessly stubborn, and she hates to lose. This is part of what leads her to fight with her pets so often; she has trouble admitting that she’s wrong, or rather, she has just as much trouble admitting that other people were right. Her entire career as an idol actually started when her brother told her she couldn’t cut it, and bam! Hibiki flew off to Tokyo with ten pets behind her, determined to become successful just to prove him wrong.
Above all, though, Hibiki can’t stand people who don’t abide by the rules or people who are just underhanded. Intimidated by her success in an animal-related TV show, a rival idol group’s producer arranged for Hibiki to be taken to a road far from the set and left there. Hibiki fought blood, tooth, and nail to get back with her animals and claim the show as her own, literally (she was covered in scratches and bruises). Like with most of her logic, she applies pet logic to these kind of people. “If your animal plays a prank, you make sure to scold them!” Dealing with underhanded people and losing like that is a driving force not only for her, but for her friends; Hibiki is just very outspoken about such things, and hates perverts, liars, cheaters, and the manipulative.
Unfortunately, though, Hibiki also has a slight tendency to be a bit pessimistic. She can get flustered easily, as seen in episode 13 where she spills water on Makoto while trying to prepare for her next number. She also, in the same episode, improvises a scarf for someone, not realizing that the scarf is actually for someone else in a later number. Our favorite Okinawan idol is also one of the first to worry, and she can assume the worst. This isn’t true as time goes on in the series; she becomes more confident, but those traits are still there.
These traits hardly make her a difficult person to work with, however. They do pop up from time to time and she does hold grudges, but she’s still a hard-worker who always pulls her own weight. In episode 4, it’s shown that she spends her breaks between filming studying the program diligently. She’s also very dedicated to the idol craft. Out of all of 765 Pro, she’s one of their top dancers, and this didn’t come without practice (her singing voice is nothing to sneeze at either, though!). When she’s down, it’s very easy to cheer her back up with fan mail or a pep talk, and she always pulls through in the end. There’s never been a moment where she didn’t get on stage and succeed to the fullest of her abilities.
She’s also, like every other idol in the series, got her own personality quirks. While she’s good with some electronics, sometimes they go completely beyond her. She can barely manage a video camera or untangle wires without getting really confused or stuck. She has a strong fondness for cute, animal-like things, even if they’re people. She will cook her Okinawan food for anyone she considers a friend, just because the delicious food reminds her of home. She’s an incredible athlete to the point where she can outswim and catch a fish (that later, all the other idols eat). She also has the occasional tendency to ramble on about herself (or her pets) without realizing that the other person involved has lost interest.
Hibiki is also an amazing friend to have. If she trusts and likes someone, she’ll stand up for them and work their hardest for them. She’ll support them through unfair media scandals, help them master a dance, bring them Okinawan donuts when she thinks they’re leaving the company, or just hang around the office and socialize (when she’s not busy being a top idol!). While it’s true she may expect everyone to keep up with her pace at first, she’ll calm down and work with everyone to make sure they can all make it to the dazzling stage together.
The best word that describes Hibiki is “colorful”. She’s a great friend, someone who takes care of everyone animal or human alike. She’s full of energy and can be loud, crying out for her lost pets or singing her heart out on the stage. She’s stubborn to a fault, though, and can be a bit pessimistic at times, but she’s always dependable when she’s needed. Best of all, though, if you’re hungry and you’re cute enough...there’s always going to be some champuru waiting for you!

The scene wasn’t entirely unfamiliar. Just like back home, Hibiki had the occasional quarrel with her dog, Inumi. It started the same way it always did: Hibiki hadn’t been spending enough time taking her for walks, and the Saint Bernard thought that his master had been spending way too much time pampering Waniko the alligator instead. The fight ended like it always did. Inumi stormed out, and Hibiki stayed behind in the apartment to stew over things and do some reading. Angrily.
It was only a few minutes later that Hibiki remembered something. This wasn’t like every other time Inumi stormed off. This time? It was in Luceti, and Luceti, from her point of view, is full of weirdos. That was the only inspiration she needed to spring off her couch, pull on a rain jacket, and run out the door. Soon, high-pitched calls of “Inuuuuumiiiii! I’m soooooory!” would be filling the air.
Every time she stopped to catch her breath, horrible possibilities came to mind. The last thing she needed was for some vampire or robot to find her dog first...or for Inumi to run into a bear...or for some sort of crazy shift to happen where rocks start falling from the sky. Luceti was so much bigger than she was used to, too. Cramped cities were one thing, but an entire open area...for all she knew, Inumi could have run straight into the forest. The rain was getting worse, too...
That was enough thinking about the rain, though. Hibiki stopped to catch her breath one more time. She rolled her shoulders, calmed herself down. She didn’t want to bother her friends so late at night, so this was something she had to do herself. Her stubbornness wouldn’t allow her to, either, not when it was her fault that Inumi ran off again.
“Alright...just...gotta keep looking!”
And with that, Hibiki ran straight into the forest. She wouldn’t rest until she found her dog. That was what you do when a pet is upset with you. You find them, and you make sure everything is alright again.

Hey, everyone!
I was thinking earlier...doesn’t it seem kind of weird that everyone is so afraid of hamsters? I was showing Hamuzou to someone the other day, and she screamed and ran away and shouted something about poison! What’s going on? I know you all come from different worlds or something like that, but hamsters are really nice! They love attention and love playing with others, they store food in their giant cheeks...they aren’t dangerous at all!
And I’m going to prove it, too! If you’ve never seen a hamster, let me know! I’ll show you right away! Contact me back ASAP, alright?
